As already proclaimed by the UKIPO in its technical guidelines concerning Brexit, all registeredEuropean Union Trade Marks (EUTMs) will be converted practically automatically into comparable UK trade marks. These separate and fully independent UK rights will benefit from the same filing dates, priority and seniority dates as the corresponding EUMTs.
Furthermore, the UKIPO now confirms that even the registration numbers of the EUMTs will be reflected in the comparable UK rights and will figure as the last 8 digits (prefixed with UK009). The idea is to facilitate the identification of the equivalent UK right and minimize the administrative burden of the conversion.
Further updates are expected to be published in the coming weeks. We will keep you informed about any additional developments in this matter.
